the way i searched for this exact genre back in 2020 hoping desperately someone would have done to lute music what electroswing did and found nothing on spotify so just made a playlist with medieval songs alternating with electroswing to take the edge off and called it bardcore like hardcore and thats exactly around the time bardcore took off so i had random people messaging me to have their up and coming bardcore tracks added anyway THIS is the shit i wanted. Made the cogs in my brain whirr so fast I replied as Nymree Not all drow are like that. and Halsin replies sheepishly that he admittedly hadn't met many. love this exchange because Menzoberranzan's entire society IS built upon drow killing drow that's how you improve your noble station the whole legal system is centred around doing it WELL and it's only those who fail who endure punishment. Nymree is technically Seldarine so feels a separation from that society but the fact that the first line isn't Seldarine and is just drow in general is cool.... A lolth-sworn (who is actually dedicated to Lolth) wouldn't hesitate to kill a heretic like Minthara?? Being a perfect drow warrior means killing other drow well. Being a defector means detangling yourself from that kind of conditioning but does it also mean having a duty to stop the kind of people who would use their power to kill others... You have to kill them to not be like them but killing them makes you like them.... (Okay so Drizzt goes through a similar but different thought process where he vows to never kill another drow again after he murders Masoj and takes Guenhwyvar which I haven't seen him reckon with so much since then on account of him going to the surface and not dealing with dr drow much again other than his mother. AND THEN a conversation triggered with Astarion where he talks about using the power at his disposal to be better than Cazador Nymree had just given him the tadpole which he was eager to use. Nymree agreed with the general sentiment but also pressed the point that the powerful had a duty to help the weak. And Astarion scoffed and said well no one strong ever helped HIM in 200 years so why exactly did he owe anything to anyone else? nymree seeing his thoughts reflected in astarion. trauma handshake emoji. i can fix him. boy you're the same as him.
